Here Vivi catches a few winks at the beach.

Beach camping

Here is the view from our campsite on Hermit Island.
This whole island is only camping and hiking trails.

Liam and sunset

Here is Liam at sunset on the beach at Hermit Island, a
few feet away from our campsite. A rare moment of
stillness in his life.

Hermit Island Hike

Carmen and Marcus on the wind swept cliffs of Hermit
Island, an enchanted camping spot only an hour and
change from Portland. We camped on a beautiful sandy
beach with great hiking on the whole island.

Carmen the friendly ghost

Here is Marcus, with Carmen, the
boys' nanny, at the Bartlett family
cemetary on a dirt road in the tiny
village of Sebasco, on the Phippsburg
peninsula. Marcus and Liam love
ghost stories and Carmen loves
to scare them.

Tidal Pool Marcus

More from Grindstone Neck, a heavenly
place for a young rascal who likes to chuck
rocks. Lovely pink granite.

Grindstone Neck Magic

Marcus does his best David Blaine levitation act. Marcus
and I spent 2 nights with my Dad, Jim, to taxi him around
after some outpatient surgery (it went well). Here, 4 hours
after Dad's surgery, we had a lovely smoked salmon picnic
at Grindstone Neck, in Winter Harbor, Maine, a favorite spot
of my parents.

Atop of Ol Caddy

Marcus and I finally got our own father & son trip,
downeast style. Here we are on the summit of Cadillac
Mountain, the highest spot on the eastern seaboard. As
any wee lad would, Marcus was in love with the vast
expanse of granite, great for running, jumping and hiking.
I have to say, been to quite a few venues in my day, but
there aren't many that can hold a candle to the view from
Caddy's peak.

Vivi's Laugh

Liam figured out a way to get his sister to
utter a big 'ol laugh. If she keeps this up,
she might get equal time with his leopard
gecko.

Sibling Love

The boys are quite excited that Vivi has started to smile
and have come up with many creative antics to coax out a
little grin.

Tough Gal

This is Vivi doing her best "Are
you talking to me" routine. Pay
no attention to the hands behind
the head. Last night, she made
her first non-grunting vocal sounds;
what I like to call "talking". She
is finding her voice. One thing that is
clear about Vivi is that, although she
is very sweet and not too fussy, she
does not like to be left alone. Luckily,
she has a posse of admirers to address
her every whim.

World's Largest Sand Castle

Really, it is the world's largest sand castle...
Guiness Book entry. The dude has been building
it since memorial day. Local Maine artist...he is
eagerly anticipating the ice sculpting season.

Marcus and Vivi on Sebago Lake

Marcus never passes up a chance to hold his sister. He
would like to feed her cheddar bunnies as well, but so far,
he has not. We took a day trip to Sebago Lake today to
frolic in the waning days of summer and to see the world's
largest sand castle.
